Our Bat Mitzvah this week is a young woman named Gila, but my Dvar Torah this week is for all of you out there (and all of you with wives, sisters, mothers, or daughters) named Tzipporah.
Tzipporah is a highly popular Jewish name for girls. It means “bird”, but more precisely it is the feminine form of the word “bird”. The masculine term for the bird word – which can also be used to represent the bird as species – is Tzipor.
Ever notice how, despite the popularity of the name Tzipporah for Jewish girls, Tzipor does not seem to be a name used very much for Jewish boys?

Please Drop Off Food for STEP in the Box at the Front of the Shul – Recently, STEP has not only seen an increase in the overall number of households needing food, but also the number of households that are requesting Kosher food from our food shelf. Each month, there are, on average, 30 visits by families that keep Kosher. Your continued support by providing these needed food items is so critical for STEP to provide food that is respectful of each family’s needs and beliefs. While the amount of food that STEP distributes might vary based on choices and household size, STEP does strive to give out at least 15 pounds per person—about a full grocery bag.
Our last delivery to STEP was about 35 lbs, which would last 2 people about 5 days. Thanks to everyone who donates, and if you have not yet, please drop off some food in the box in the entryway.
