Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the year, called the Shabbat of Shabbats by the rabbis. It is the last day of the ten Days of Awe in which you do your best to make the world a better place, at least as far as you affect it. After apologizing to those that you have wronged and forgiving those that have wronged you, you are now obligated to pray and fast from sundown to sundown.
